Hi Dr. Lam,
I am interested in the use of Botox for jaw reduction. I have done much research on the topic, however, the requirements to be a candidate vary. I was wondering, who makes a good candidate for this procedure?

basically, if you bite down and you feel a very firm masseter muscle then you would be an excellent candidate. if your masseter is pretty hard but not entirely, then you would be a good but not a perfect candidate. if it is very soft, then you are a poor candidate. unfortunately, only my touch of your face will be the most accurate since i am used to feeling the masseter where most people have no idea per se since they do not have a relative sense of hardness, whereas I do.

Hello Dr. Lam

I had a few questions pertaining post treatment of Botox injections into the masseteur muscle. When I work out at the gym, I notice that I clinch some muscles in my face.

Would these impeded on the results Botox would have on my masseteur muscles?

Also, are there any complications such as soreness, red marks, or bruising?

What should I look for in an MD performing this proceedure?

1. the gym clenching should not be an issue.
2. complications can be asymmetry, bruising, overweakness or talking wrong (in inexperienced hands).
3. you really have to find someone who does this all the time because the high dose of botox must be done perfectly to avoid these problems. that is why i spend 5 minutes marking and remarking you to make sure that i have everything dead on right.

can botox injection be applied right below the upper cheek bone? I think I have an excess amount of muscle right in this area.

no, that is an area that has more nerve issues and carries more risk.

Hello Sir, i hav a square shaped face. and the jaw is a little abnormal as my bones are a little outwardly projected and also now the right massater muscle has a slight inflammation (its painless though). the doctor has suggested me an FNAC.what do u suggest sir?
i hav this inflammation since an year or so.
