Hi Dr. Lam, for pitted scars i was wondering if you think that before getting silicon microdroplet any type of lasers would be benficial? Like fraxel re:pair? Also, if one is not able to come to get the silicon for a while would juvederm or restalyne work temporarily to fill in the pits?

if these are icepicks classically speaking, fillers have a hard time working. that is when i prefer CROSS treatments. if they are small round holes, like saucers (or larger skin depressions), then silicone is excellent. i just spoke with an expeirenced cosmetic dermatologic colleague about fraxel re:pair, active fx, and other co2 fractionated technologies and he is not very excited about it with acne scars. i was going to try them out but right now i am just too busy. i will say that there is no magic bullet as far as lasers for acne scars. they are very hard to manage in general. i would have to see your scars to see what would be the best options for you.

Hi, thanks. What about restalyne or juvederm for the rolling, pitted scars (not the icepick) would that work until one could come for silicone?

yes, that should be fine. those injectables work well in many cases.

ok, i am asking because i know a girl who went to a very expensive "reputable" famous guy in LA (derm) and he injected restlyne into her pitted scars and it didnt make any difference at all...

pitted scars may not respond to restylane. that is the problem with acne scars. sometimes you hit a home run (which is really third base) and sometimes you don't. i am always very careful when explaining that to a patient. obviously, technique can be a factor too. there are many variables.
