1. great idea with the spa!
2. shopping- across the street is Shops at Willow Bend which has a wide range of stores. the classic mall in Dallas is Northpark. You can google that. It is in central Dallas about 20 minutes away from my office. It has an even wider range of stores. If you want some high-end boutiques (very high end) that you don't mind walking a short distance in the heat, then Highland Park Village (also 20 minutes from the office and closer to Northpark) is a good bet.
3. as far as live music is concerned, i am a bit deficient in that department. guidelive.com is a great resource for current live venues and bands. go there for info.
4. if you want really close by my office that serves good but not amazing mexican, i prefer Christina's right on Park. I personally am not a big fan of Abuelo's. There is also Cantina Laredo. If you want what has been touted as one of the best in Dallas (I think it is good but not all that and a bag of chips), you can try Javier's, which is close to the classic shopping areas. The "best" is an hour away in Fort Worth (reportedly) called Joe T. Garcia's but i have never eaten there (tried one time at 5:30 but the lines were crazy). I love Alo but that placed burned down and is in the process of being rebuilt which is a mix of Peruvian and Mexican. If that place gets rebuilt, ABSOLUTELY GO THERE!!! (I just checked the website. It is still closed.) It's sister restaurant (also near the classic malls I mentioned) is La Duni. La Duni is more upscale but still inexpensive and all the desserts are handmade. Really nice. Ciudad also further downtown is supposedly classic but have not tried it. If you stay near my place further up north at the Shops of Legacy, you can try Mi Cocina. It is heavier Mexican fare. I personally like the sister restaurant in the same shopping complex called Taco Diner featuring Mexican street tacos with corn tortillas. I actually love their "Americanos" with flour tortillas. really tasty. if you like hot sauce make sure you ask for the hot version of the salsa so that they serve that too. Another favorite Mexico City street taco is Urban Taco in the Mockingbird Station area near Northpark and again the older, well-heeled malls. I LOVE their corn tortilla street tacos and make it a point if I am in Terminal C of DFW to eat it (I think C17). hope that helps!
best,
sml
