Dr Lam,

Is it true that gortex takes longer to deswell and take shape than silicon? Does it get compressed over time? What is the eventual height of a single 2mm layer of gortex after compression?

i don't think it takes longer to deswell. i think compression is not as active in the nose as in the chin where there is greater mobility. my opinion is there really should be little to no compression.

Thanks for your reply. What is the height of a single layer of gortex? Also is gortex complicated to remove over time? Iif someone is unhappy with their implant is it better to take it out sooner than later?

each sheet of gore-tex is 1mm. however, i do buy gore-tex sheets premade at 1, 2 and 3 mm to make it easier to insert and to provide a more stable insertion.

gore-tex is harder to remove than silicone but i have had no problem removing it in the past from the nose. just a little more patience and care are required.

if the gore-tex truly looks off, it is probably better to remove it. if it is just a little swollen or full looking, probably giving it some time to deswell (as you put it) would be a good idea. everything should be a case by case basis.

Dr Lam,

Its been 3 months since my surgery... I dont like my bridge because i see a slight bump, it could be due to swelling or something else. Would it be better to remove it soon? I'm scared after 6 months or a year will the gortex will be hard to remove.

after 6 months to a year i don't think the gore-tex will be harder to remove in my opinion. that is my opinion though. if you see a bump and it is sizable due to a kink in the gore-tex, most likely it should be removed. if it is a very tiny depression or very small bump, some silicone micro can be used to camouflage it.

Its a small bump so its not very noticable, but i am bothered by it. I think i'd rather remove it than get fillers. Just asking for your opinon, would you recommand i remove it now or wait awhile?

you really need to ask your doc about that. as far as i am concerned, it does not matter if you remove it or leave it now or later. i probably would wait for 2 reasons: it is pretty early and it may resolve itself; you may change your mind later.
