Dr Lam,

What would you consider as the best way to raise a flat forehead? Are there any procedures which produces permanent results and is also safe to do. Thanks in advance!

there are various types of forehead implants that can be done. i featured them in my book Cosmetic Surgery of the Asian Face 2nd edition. However, I do not perform those types of implants. I believe I have answered this question before. Do an archive search. In essence it is a custom-made implant of silicone that is fashioned using a dental alginate. Beyond that, I believe that fat grafting into this area has the major problem of causing brow heaviness over the years so I don't perform fat into the forehead. I don't have any other solutions. Sorry.

Could you explain what brow heaviness means and why its caused by fat transfer? I would like my mid forehead to protrude out more as its kind of goes inwards, especially when i look at my profile. I would prefer fat transfer to implants, would fat grafting be permanent?

the weight of fat over the thin forehead can make it look as if you are putting your hand on your forehead and pushing down toward the eyes with it. that might usually occur years down the road. that is why i don't do fat there. fat is also a live graft. the skin is too thin to accommodate fat in the forehead. it can grow and shape in an area that is highly unforgiving. fat is relatively permanent because you will continue to lose fat but since the forehead does not lose much fat compared with the rest of the face, the result should be pretty permanent. however, i will not do your case because i do not believe fat transfer to that area is safe given the comments above.

Thanks for the info Dr Lam. I know you don't do forehead implants but could you explain the procedure a little. There's not much info online.. is there a reason why you don't perform this? Is it fairly safe, pain-free, etc?

i can't explain the procedure much more because i don't do it. you can only specialize in so many things. i simply have chosen not to do this procedure since it would be one that i would do so rarely and to be honest i have no interest in contouring foreheads. sorry.
