This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions addressing linear scars, depressed scars, keloid scars, hypertrophic scars, and other facial reconstructive topics. (Of note, Dr. Lam no longer accepts medical insurance so he rarely manages cancer reconstruction or trauma anymore.)
Was at a party on a Saturday. A drunk guy threw a beer bottle, and I happened to be the unlucky person sitting in its path. I called my PS and he told me to put wet gauze and plastic on it until he could see me on Monday morning. My PS then advised to put micropore tape on instead of stitches. I kept the micropore on for for 6 weeks. Since then, I have been massaging with scar gel for 30 minutes everyday. My PS advised to wait and see how the scar heals after 6 months. It is now 4 months later. As the scar is still swollen (see the one picture attached from the side view), I went for a 2nd opinion a week ago. The 2nd PS decided to try inject steroid into the scar - scar now feels weird compared to before and it doesn't seem to have helped How would you advise proceeding? Is it time for scar revision? Am I a candidate for GBLR? Thanks in advance for your help!

in general, i am afraid of steroids because of the risk of atrophy but many PS's believe in it. i would say that you could have a GBLR but it does not look too bad from the photos. perhaps i would give it more time and use scar creams. the ones that i recommend are silicone gel (does not matter the brand), Scar Recovery Gel (Skin Medica), and Regenica. best, s.
