Hi Dr. Lam,
i recently had an approximately 7mm i-shape goretex implant inserted into my nose bridge with ear cartilage to define the tip. i do not believe anything else was done (no breaking of bones/no shaving, etc). this was done at my primary rhino a little over a week ago.
i read that goretex infuses with the skin's tissues to a certain extent over time, so if i consider removal of this implant so shortly (2-3 weeks) after the primary rhino, will it be easier to remove? what are the aesthetic / structural consequences of a "difficult" removal process?
my main question involves the outcome of this potential implant removal. if this implant is removed, will i see my original nose again? skin sag? approximately how long will it take to return to my original pre-op appearance during recovery? what can i expect during recovery in terms of time, amount of swelling, wearing a cast, etc?
also, will i see added nose volume in comparison to my original nose due to the scar tissue?
i realize that my nose bridge will decrease in size if i were to proceed with this removal. my result from the primary rhino was OK, perhaps it was made a little too high, but the main reason i am considering removal is that i am getting persisting anxiety over the risk of infection. i do not want to be trapped in a situation in which i will be forced into the removal of my goretex implant much later in my life and have to deal with the permanent changes in the nose cartilage architecture. i believe i can be very happy with my original nose, but i would like to know these details before i make any decisions. thank you, dr. lam
