Dr. Lam,
I am a 34 year old southeast Asian male (Laos/Thai descent) who was born with two birthmarks on the face. The first is located on my right cheek and the second on my right forehead. I really want to have them both removed.
I consulted with a local dermatologist who believes I have a condition called "Nevus of Ota". For a second opinion, I consulted with another dermatologist who believes it is a Cafe' au lait spot. The second dermatologist suggests laser treatment. He wants to create two test spots using a ND:YAG Laser and an Apogee Laser.
In your professional opinion, which of these lasers would be best for my skin? I am naturally tanned and really concerned with hypopigmentation post procedure. I don't want to risk removing dark birthmarks but only to end up with light "birthmarks". If I walked into your office for a consultation, would you suggest laser treatment or would you take a completely different route?
Thanks!
-Paul
