Best Treatment For me?

This section of the forum is dedicated to discussions addressing linear scars, depressed scars, keloid scars, hypertrophic scars, and other facial reconstructive topics. (Of note, Dr. Lam no longer accepts medical insurance so he rarely manages cancer reconstruction or trauma anymore.)

Best Treatment For me?

Postby DamnLife » Thu Mar 14, 2013 5:31 am

Hi!
I have about 30 small keloid/ or hypertrophic (raised) scars on chest and shoulders, I'm currently getting steroid injections (triamcinolone acetonide) and IPL but that's only minimal improvement. What is the best treatment for me? and what results should I expect?
Thank you.

the breakthrough today is a cryoprobe method that penetrates the keloid without need for steroids, surgery or radiation. i just did 13 keloids yesterday with this method. it is truly a breakthrough.

Thank you very much for your reply Dr.Lam.
Does it completely removes the scar?
and would it help in my case?
if you don't mind looking at the pictures.

these do not look like frank keloids but hypertrophic scars, a much milder version than a keloid. the probe is too strong and will cause problems. you need a combination of 5FU injections, KTP laser, and Regenica cream as well as silicone gels. That is how i would do it but that may take 3 to 6 sessions spread out by a month or two. not realistic if you want to use me and you don't live in the Dallas area.

no, but they will both be equally good for the scar. KTP is 532 nm and PDL is 589 nm, both in the range to manage scar. I have a KTP.

Thank you Dr. Lam I have been to some Plastic surgeons and dermatologists they couldn't even explain a thing about my scars, if only more doctors were like you I'm sure there would be much more achievements in modern medicine.
One more question, if I get the surgeon to completely "cut out" my scars would they look better? or would they only get worse?
